Internet Marketing

So what exactly is Internet Marketing?  Internet marketing, also known as online marketing, electronic marketing, digital marketing, web marketing, i-marketing, search marketing or e-marketing, is really the marketing or promotion of products, services, information, or your brand over the Internet.

To address the subject properly we need to define the difference between marketing and advertising.  According to Wikipedia, marketing is “the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. Marketing is a product or service selling related overall activities. It generates the strategy that underlies sales techniques, business communication, and business developments.It is an integrated process through which companies build strong customer relationships and create value for their customers and for themselves.

Most confuse marketing with advertising.  They are really two different things.  Marketing is meant for overall and long term success while advertising is used for short term more targeted and singular actions.

How does that apply to my Website?

Have you ever tried to describe what a strawberry tastes like?  Is that possible? That is exactly what advertising attempts to do in most cases.  Take a look at a billboard, a TV ad, or a magazine, you will find lots of examples of advertising.  All these advertising examples are not interactive nor are they able to allow the viewer to browse through your entire offer or information and create a desired action at the same time.  They  are also generally not available on demand nor do they inherently possess a visitor return element.

A good website takes all visitor interaction into account to form an ideal marketing experience.  WordPress has no equal in terms of providing the tools a website developer and marketer requires to create an online experience that offers the visitor a pleasant, thought provoking, and actionable visit.  Best of all, most of the critical marketing elements are available by using standard and readily available themes and plugins.
